Some of Africa's elected leaders and most-active citizens are losing their lives to HIV -- and democracy itself may be suffering as a result, a new report says. The study, by South Africa's Institute for Democracy, says that so many African leaders are dying from HIV that the growth and stability of many African democracies may be at risk.
