The Coolamon Kid Phumlani Nyanga

Phumlani Nyanga

We will not let you down mate!

The young man that Coolamon Rotary is sponsoring through Rotary Hout Bay and KiDS, South Africa, is called Phumlani Nyanga. The selection process for Phumlani was a series of interviews with him and KiDS. Phumlani was referred to KiDS by the headmaster of his junior school.

Some criteria for his selection:

The child must be from a disadvantaged background and must have a guardian of some kind who is also interviewed and must be positive towards contributing and helping the child. The child must be a hard worker.

Interviews are undertaken by a full time KiDS employee who is a retired principal. Of the 110 children they have sponsored through schooling to date KiDS have only had one dropout.

Phumlani is an "orphan", he lives at the James House Orphanage in Hout Bay. Phumlani's circumstances at home were so serious, that James House has taken him in and given him shelter. James House is committed to giving him the support and back up he needs to achieve. He attends Camps Bay High School in Hout Bay and is in Grade 8. He is an average scholar who gives his best at all that he does. He attended Llandudno Primary School near Hout Bay, where he played in the soccer team. Soccer is his favourite thing to do and he dreams of playing for his country one day-South Africa.

Let us make sure that Phumlani Nyanga does achieve his goals.

Initially we are supporting him for 12 months however it is our intention to support him through 4 more years of High School. We will have some photos of Phumlani soon.
